Met Gala 2016: Manus x Machina

This year's theme, Manus x Machina, inspired designers to create show-stopping piece after piece on the runway. Metallics were huge, with an emphasis on texture and lines. Emily Ratajkowski turned heads in a black and white geometrically draped stunner with an open back designed by Prabal Gurung. Ciara donned a heavily ornamented column gown designed in collaboration with H&M. Her bluish-silver 20's inspired hair was also a big hit. Kendall Jenner wore an electrical-wire inspired gown with sexy cutouts and open back, designed by Versace. Kendall and fellow supermodel Cindy Crawford nearly broke the internet when they got together for a photo-op in their equally dazzling dresses. Cindy rocked a glittering armor-inspired gown designed by Olivier Rousteing for Balmain. Brie Larson also went the way of textured metallics, stunning in a silver Proenza Schouler gown with cutout back and bow detail. Rita ora went the softer route, opting for a silver feather-covered gown with strategically placed cutouts, designed by Vera Wang. As you can see, texture continued to rule the runway throughout the night. Lily Aldridge may have just started the newest beauty trend: metallic eyebrows. Her cascading gold gown, designed by Michael Kors, was a perfect complement to her golden eyebrows and bronzed skin. Olivia Culpo interpreted the theme by showing off a binary inspired neck tattoo while sporting thigh high boots and a textured black minidress, designed by Emanuel Ungaro. Anna Ewers slayed in a Hugo Boss creation covered with small silver embellishments creating an armored column effect, while the slit up the side and open back kept it sexy and strong. Lady Gaga made jaws drop in her usual fashion, sporting sky high booties and a Versace ensemble consisting of an embellished corset/bra and sharp shouldered jacket. Kate Hudson glided in with her continual elegance in a white laser-cut Versace gown. While there wasn't much color on the runway this year, neutrals and metallics with exquisite detailing stole the show. Stay tuned next year for a custom Christina Karin creation!
